Father's Day 2004
"Big Truck Tour"

Well it was a beautiful day, so people must have wanted to do something other than bike ride since it was just Zack and me out at the Commonwealth Ave carriage road meeting place in Newton Centre. This allowed us to customize the ride into the "Big Truck Tour".
We headed west on the carriage road, stopping at the construction site for the Teddy Bear Club pre-school, then continued on Comm Ave and turned left at the fire station (home of one of Newton's three ladder trucks) onto Rte 16. To avoid some of the traffic, we turned right on Woodland Rd into Lasell College, and then left on Grove St where we saw an excavator, road roller, front-end loader, and back-hoe!

Further down Grove we stopped at the Riverside MBTA and explored the Training Center and Car Repair barns in the back. Grove crosses Rte 128 and later turns into Hagar, and we turned left onto Concord St so we could pick up Rte 16 West again into Wellesley.

The CRW arrows for the Wednesday night ride start at the site of the old Grossman's Lumber, so we followed them, turning right onto Glen Rd with a long uphill, followed by a long downhill to Wellesley Street. Turning right, we rode past Weston High School, which was the starting point for that Sunday's CRW ride, but everyone had already left by 11:00.

Continuing onward, we crossed Rte 30 and decided to explore Regis College and the Spellman Stamp Museum; of course, since it was 10 miles into the ride, Zack had fallen asleep, so we continued up the road, and took the right turn onto Newton St which is the short version of the arrowed ride. We crossed Rte 30 onto Park Rd, passing the Leo J. Martin Golf Course onto Concord St and ended up back at Rte 16.  At this point Zack was awake so we continued across onto River St to Cedar St and stopped at the
Schofield School which has a nice new playground. After some water and crackers and swinging and climbing and sliding, we headed back on Cedar St to Walnut to Quinobequin and explored various back roads on our way back to Newton Centre.

We were home by 1:30 and had plenty of time to get the smoker going to feed
a dozen people some of the best Memphis Style Ribs they've ever had.
